Marine VHF Radio with GPS review and setup- Retevis RM40 and how to turn on the GPS location setting

To set up a new marine VHF radio you need to register it to get a MMSI number, you can do this here: https://www.boatus.com/products-and-s... The default setting of the Retevis RM40 is with the GPS turned off and it's not clear from the manual how to turn it on and I did not find the menu intuitive. To activate the GPS location on the Retevis RM40, you need to go Menu, Radio Settings, then turn the GPS power from OFF to ON. The unit will power off and when you power it back on, a blinking satellite icon appears. If the unit is outdoors, the location should show up within a few minutes. Overall this seems to be a good little waterproof unit for casual use at a reasonable price with good sound quality and reception. I only need a VHF radio a few times per year so this should do the trick at a low price. If you need to use it regularly, I'm sure there are better quality options available. I hope you find this helpful, please give it a thumbs up and if you purchase this unit using the link below, I get a small commission: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B098NC1QPR/...
