The main Chengdu base is huge but involves a lot of walking between enclosures. Dujiangyan food street: Go hungry. Don’t try to “try everything” – pick a direction and commit. Expect Muslim Chinese dishes, classic Sichuan snacks, and lots of things on sticks. Hotpot in Chengdu: Chengdu hotpot tends to be slightly less aggressive than Chongqing, but more numbing + layered in flavour. Wear something you don’t mind smelling like hotpot after. Tea house & bian lian (face‑changing opera): Book/show up a little early to get good seats. You usually get snacks and fruit with your tea – this is a must‑do if you want to feel Chengdu’s slower, “liveable” side. First‑class train: Arrive early enough to enjoy the lounge and snacks.
