Wuppertal is home to one of the most extraordinary transport systems in Europe. Opened in 1901, the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn crosses the city suspended on an elevated structure, following the river Wupper for most of the route. It's 13.3 kilometers and 20 stations on a line that continues to be part of the daily routine of thousands of passengers. We had already visited Wuppertal in 2018, but maintenance prevented us from seeing its most famous attraction in operation. This time, we returned to the city during the Christmas period and finally rode the Schwebebahn, observing from above the river, the streets, the residential neighborhoods and the landscape marked by the hills.
