Employee Retention
In one sense, retention is the opposite of turnover. However, the reasons key people choose to stay with an employer may not be the opposite of those that compel others to quit. Retaining top talent is a concern for many employers, and understanding retention is the key to keeping more of those top performer. Employee retention refers to the ability of an organization to retain its employees. In this course we will discuss some of the drivers of retention, or areas in which employers can take action to increase the probability of keeping employees. Retention is important because turnover can cause poor performance in otherwise productive units. The focus now turns toward the keys to managing retention as part of effective HR management. Management can take numerous actions to deal with retention issues. The choice of a particular action depends on the analysis of the turnover and retention problems in a particular organization and should be custom-tailored for that organization.
