They were primarily young people in their 20s and 30s. They gathered at the entrances of the counting station to monitor whether the ballot boxes were being removed, and waved the Korean flag while shouting slogans for a "re-election" and singing the national anthem throughout the night. However, they appeared to be exercising extreme restraint regarding physical clashes. Notices urging a peaceful process were posted throughout the park, stating that we must unite with one voice now, urging people to refrain from slogans other than those demanding a re-election or the infringement of suffrage rights, and asking them not to carry the American flag or the national anthems of other countries. People even applauded when police officers were changing shifts. The police focused only on maintaining order and did not intervene in any significant way. During the night, lawmakers such as Lee Jin-sook of the People Power Party and Lee Jun-seok of the New Reform Party were spotted at the scene. Also present were Jeon Han-gil, who claims election fraud, and Professor Mos Tan. Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho emphasized in a social media post yesterday evening that he expects effective measures, including a special prosecutor or a parliamentary investigation, regarding the ballot shortage. At the same time, he warned that he would strictly crack down on any attempts to turn a non-violent, peaceful protest—which deserves respect—into a violent demonstration, and cautioned election fraud conspiracy theorists to stay away. Initially, as the standoff continued, there was a situation where National Election Commission (NEC) staff members inside the counting station were isolated; however, it is reported that they have now all managed to get out. However, the official stance of the police and the NEC is that they cannot confirm whether the staff members have moved or if the ballot boxes have been removed.
