Roques de los Muchachos - Can You Still Shoot Something New? | Milky Way Adventure

Tonight I'm shooting at the Roques de los Muchachos, the observatory complex high above La Palma and one of the darkest skies in the northern hemisphere. The place is photographed relentlessly, so I arrived nervous, wondering whether I could find a single composition that felt new. What I realised is that it doesn't really matter: you still get to stand beneath the giant domes and among the enormous mirrors under and incredible sky, and the images look after themselves. On a rare night with no wind at all, I set about shooting the Milky Way over the observatories, watching the stunning sunset and timelapsing the motion of the night sky above our heads.
