It stars Robert Hays as Ted Striker and Julie Hagerty as Elaine Dickinson, reprising their roles from the original film. This time, the story takes place on the maiden voyage of a commercial space shuttle called Mayflower One, which is bound for the Moon. When a computer malfunction threatens the safety of the shuttle and its passengers, Ted must once again step in to save the day, despite being institutionalized for his past aviation trauma. The film continues the original’s signature style of rapid-fire jokes, slapstick comedy, visual gags, and absurd wordplay. It pokes fun at science fiction tropes and disaster film clichés, with exaggerated characters, bizarre plot twists, and parodied technology. As chaos breaks out onboard, Ted battles not only the shuttle’s rogue computer system but also his own self-doubt, while trying to win back Elaine’s affection.
