AFL Classroom: Splicing with the Fujikura 100S

Welcome back to AFL Classroom. In this episode of the Fujikura 100S Fusion Splicer training series, we focus on fiber preparation, loading, arc calibration, and completing a splice using recommended best practices. This video walks through the SSCCL preparation workflow — Sleeve, Strip, Clean, Cleave, and Load — and explains why disciplined preparation is critical to achieving low-loss, consistent splices. Viewers will see how proper fiber handling, cleaving techniques using the CT60 cleaver, and immediate loading help prevent contamination and rework. The episode also covers fiber loading methods, ergonomics, sheath clamp and fiber holder workflows, and common loading mistakes to avoid. Arc calibration is explained in detail, including when to run it and how it compensates for environmental conditions to maintain splice quality. Lastly, the video demonstrates completing a splice in Auto mode, including fiber inspection, alignment, fusion, and sleeve heating. Proper sleeve placement, heating technique, and post-splice handling are emphasized to ensure each splice is fully protected and ready for service.
