I'm A Loser Recording Sessions (August 14, 1964)
Beatles For Sale Sessions August 14, 1964 I'm A Loser Sessions Right before the Beatles went on their first North American tour, they recorded three songs during this recording session with “I’m A Loser” being the first one attempted. The four-track tape of the basic track consisted of bass, drums, and both guitar parts all recorded on track one and vocals on track four. The first complete take of the day, ‘take 2’ did not feature John & Paul’s signature vocal duet introduction but by ‘take 3’ on wards, they had already incorporated it into the song. By ‘take 4’, John decided to play live his harmonica and this was also recorded on the vocal track. ‘Take 8’ was the best performance and overdubs then followed. Track two featured George’s lead guitar overdub, along with some tambourine present during the chorus and track three included further vocals by John and Paul. Tracklist: Intro 0:00 - 0:05 I'm A Loser (Take 1) 0:06 - 0:21 I'm A Loser (Take 2) 0:22 - 2:31 I'm A Loser (Take 3) 2:32 - 5:16 I'm A Loser (Take 4) 5:17 - 6:12 I'm A Loser (Take 5) 6:13 - 6:48 I'm A Loser (Take 6) 6:49 - 9:45 I'm A Loser (Take 7) 9:46 - 10:50 I'm A Loser (Take 8) 10:51 - 13:25 The Beatles recorded this song on 14 August 1964, the same day as "Mr. Moonlight" and "Leave My Kitten Alone". It was recorded in eight takes. It was released four months after it was recorded, but beforehand, it was previewed on BBC Radio on 17 November, along with three other songs from Beatles for Sale and also the "I Feel Fine"/"She's a Woman" single.
