(14th edition of the Milady book) *key points: • Level system= measurement of lightness or darkness of hair color •Can be 1-10 or 1-12 •1= black, 10 or 12= palest yellow, brightest blonde •Underlying pigment = natural warmth that shows up when you lighten hair •Haircolor charts are also called shade charts or swatch charts •When reading hair color, the first number= level, the first letter is the primary tone, and the second letter (or can be a number) is the secondary tone. Example: 5RV= level 5 haircolor with a dominant tone of Red and a secondary tone of Violet. • . / = break Example= 6.22 6/22 the break separates the level from the one •Color Key: (This is a basic guide; all hair color lines are different and use different letters to mean different colors/tones.)
