Krakatoa, a Star Trek starship commissioned by Matthew Wilkinson and built by Howie Day, as a newer iteration of the Abbe Class by Eric Kristiansen. In Universe: The Krakatoa Class is primarily tasked to the Starfleet Corps of Engineers and are responsible for maintaining short- and long-range aids to communication, navigation, threat detection, and weather; they are capable of mine detection, identification, avoidance, and neutralization; they ensure the safe transfer of ammunition; they assist Starbase Command, Operations, and civil authorities in the establishment and care of colonies, outposts, and stations. While they carry the same capabilities as the Abbe Class, their extended shuttle and cargo capacity make them ideal for peacetime engineering on the final frontier.
