The first version of the Rattenbach Report called for General Galtieri's execution. He probably deserved it for his poor performance as a military leader, but above all for allowing himself to be deceived by the British and their allies, thus allowing them to unleash the war that Perfidious Albion was seeking. However, although Galtieri was guilty of many things, he was not an alcoholic. The myth of "the drunken general" was concocted to ridicule the Falklands War. It was to "roll Argentinians in the mud of humiliation," as an English lord had demanded just days after the fall of Puerto Argentino.
