First Way to Teach a Horse to Neck Rein

How to Teach a Horse to Neck Rein | B1 Horsemanship Most horses don't just pick up the neck rein. You have to build it — and you have to have the right foundation in place before you even start. In this video Richard works with Mabel on the exact progression he uses to introduce the neck rein. Rein first, boot top second, spur if needed. That order matters. He also covers squall reining, using your leg to move a foot, and when to overtrain a response versus when to back off and let the horse think. If you can get a horse neck reining correctly they become a whole different animal to ride. That's what we're working toward here. The B1 membership has everything you need to get there — full training library, colt starting programs, and Richard personally answers questions in the community.
