Let's take a stroll off the beaten track along the Witton Weavers Way, a 32 mile stretch of footpath which passes through sites of geographical or historical significance throughout Lancashire. This section of the trail takes us through a beautiful forest of Norwegian Spruce trees! Situated next to what is now the Turton and Entwistle Reservoir, the area was used as a place of worship by non-conformist Christians in the 17th century. This area is officially considered part of Yarnsdale, a small sandstone quarry, the name for which derives from the English surname 'Hern' which means 'mythical hunter'.
