A Jian that Cuts like a Dao - The LK Chen Ming Disc Guard Jian
https://lkchensword.com/disc-guard-cu... Let’s take a closer look at the Disc Guard Cutting Jian by LK Chen and discover the fascinating history of the Chinese cutting jian, a unique civilian sword from the Ming Dynasty that combined the qualities of the nimble and elegant jian with the powerful battlefield dao. When battlefields were shifting to firearms, dao were still being used as a sidearm, and strict regulations in the Ming Code prohibited the sale of military sabers, which led civilians to commission jian with broad, dao-like blades optimized for powerful cutting while still capable of precise thrusting. These “civilian swords,” sometimes labeled by collectors as “peasant swords,” were actually extremely well-crafted, sophisticated weapons that were often owned by wealthy individuals, bodyguards, and scholars. This sword is one of my favorite Jian by LK Chen, and it surpasses many others in terms of cutting ability, liveliness and agility, and handling for forms and technique training.
