Sperry Glacier from Lake McDonald Lodge via Comeau Pass in Glacier National Park Montana

Sperry Glacier is one of the largest glaciers (if not the largest) in Glacier National Park and the main trail for this glacier begins at Lake McDonald Lodge. We began at the lodge parking lot and started up the Gunsight Pass Trail for about 6.2 miles. Just before the Sperry Chalet turn left on to the Sperry Glacier Trail. This trail takes you past Feather Woman Lake & falls as well as Akaiyan Lake as you make your way up to Comeau Pass which sits just above 8,000 feet. The views above Comeau Pass can be described as unworldly. From there it is only about 1/2 mile to Sperry Glacier but it does take some route finding. Make your way through rock bands and snowfields to the North/NorthEast slope of Gunsight Mountain where the glacier sits. Typically this is a 10 mile hike one way (20 miles out & back) with roughly 5,000 feet of elevation gain in the first 9 miles. You will most likely see mountain goats along the way - enjoy the Wilds!
