On April 28th, 2026, we held the webinar “Is Your Digital Identity Really Yours? Voting and Rights in Digital Europe”. Big Tech companies have monopolised digital identities (and the associated personal data) by offering interoperability and simplicity. So personal data is exposed to private actors as a form of “payment” for the cost of providing a digital identity service. The European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) can streamline secure access to public services, including potential e-voting systems. By ensuring universal access to reliable digital IDs across EU borders, it reduces barriers to engagement like paperwork and fraud risks, fostering greater inclusivity and trust in governance.
