In other words, they wouldn't be able to "release" this current for very long without breaking down! o.O Well, in the video, we show how to obtain currents greater than 1A using any voltage regulator in the "78xX" series, depending only on the type of transistor we'll use in the circuit! :) Example: using a TIP42A transistor (PNP), we can easily obtain a current of around 3A at the output of the 78xx regulator! ;) Curious?
