Garfish Swim-Bait Handmade Lure - Part 8 - Wow! Silky-Smooth Natural Action on Her First Test Swim.

Known by some as the "fast food of the sea", the garfish is a long and slender fish that grows to around 75cm (30in) in length. The pectoral, dorsal, and anal fins are situated well back on the body and the latter two are similar in appearance. In natural live fish, scientists believe that the positioning of the fins so far back, gives greater flexibility to the body, a characteristic Greg attempts to emulate in his 6-piece design of the Garfish Lure. It has been a frustrating week as Greg has completed the aesthetics of the Garfish and provisionally placed the belly-weights which should help impart action to the sections of the lure. The first in-the-water-test literally brought the lure alive, as it moved with a lithe, almost mindful action. At greater retrieve speeds however, it lost most of its natural action undermining its design as a “trolling bait”. Back to the drawing board several times, and Greg managed to get the Garfish to swim at great speed, while still maintaining most of its natural movement. Watch as the Garfish literally comes to life. Get involved and have a say in the COMMENTS section as to what the final design of the lure should be. Now that all the components have come together, and the lure performance affirmed, Greg looks ahead with anticipation to the final finishing touches as his artistic mastery brings the lure to life.
