Restauración de la Cueva Hundidero - Gato en Montejaque, provincia de Málaga

In Málaga, we find one of the longest caves in Andalusia. It is the Hundidero-Gato system, a cave system that begins in Montejaque and ends, four kilometers later, in Benaoján, in the province of Málaga. To facilitate visits, a series of ecological restoration works are underway. The Sierra de Líbar is one of the mountain ranges of the Grazalema Natural Park. The limestone rocks conceal caves highly valued by speleologists and archaeologists. The longest and also the best known is the Hundidero-Gato cave, declared a Natural Monument of Andalusia three years ago. The Guadares River, also known as the Campobuche, seeps into the enormous 60-meter-high mouth of the Hundidero cave and reappears as a waterfall. To facilitate access, a bridge is being built over the Guadiaro River. At the entrance, in Montejaque, 400 meters from the cave entrance, is the Los Caballeros dam, which can be accessed. Built in 1925, it was a pioneering engineering feat for its time. Currently, the dam is being considered for declaration as a Site of Cultural Interest, and there is an ecological restoration project underway for the entire area. The attraction of a 4-kilometer cave system, whose surroundings are open to visitors. It begins in Montejaque and ends in Benaoján, where the Guadares and Guadiaro rivers meet.
