Peticiones del Padre Nuestro

On the first Sunday of July, we celebrate the Divine Service for the Departed, remembering those who have gone to the afterlife. God also offers them salvation in Christ and the Sacraments. An essential element of our faith is that, after dying on the cross, Jesus himself preached the Gospel to the dead. The following three Divine Services are dedicated to petitions from the Lord's Prayer. First, the petition: “Thy kingdom come.” The proclamation of the kingdom of God and its justice is central to Jesus' message. This petition expresses the request for the fulfillment of the divine plan of redemption. Next, we will address the petition: “Give us this day our daily bread.” God is the giver of all natural and spiritual good. We not only give thanks for this, but we also desire to help others. Furthermore, God offers us spiritual nourishment through preaching and strengthens our communion with Jesus Christ in the Lord's Supper. Finally, we recall the petition: “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven time and again. However, it is also necessary to acknowledge that we have sinned against God and our neighbor, to avoid sin, and to be willing to forgive.
