With the SX seed drill for the Optima, Kverneland is breaking new ground in terms of speed. The manufacturer specifies a maximum speed of 18 km/h. Despite the electric drive of the seed rows, no generator is required – that's interesting. All further details in order: In the trailed version, the TF profi, the fertilizer distribution and seed singulation systems share a single blower. The airflow is split at the rear of the drawbar. And it's not just the seed drill that's new; several details, such as the redesigned fertilizer tank and the linkage of the fertilizer coulters, have also been modified. Compared to previous Optima seed drills, the new cast single-row suspension is a notable feature. For seed placement at high speeds, the new seed drill operates with positive pressure. The seeds are propelled at speeds of up to 70 km/h in front of the seed catcher. Two scrapers are available for fine-tuning. Any remaining seed can be emptied via a chute. Before you can take a look inside the seed drill, you have to loosen the seed tube and four clamps. The stainless steel perforated disc with 32 holes can be loosened after locking using the included wrench. For field use, Kverneland recommends at least 160 hp. Compared to this prototype, some minor details have been changed. For example, the gauge wheels next to the cutting discs now have five plastic spokes. And the seed boxes are now slightly shallower and, at 60 liters, hold a good 5 liters more than previous Optima models. Also new in this generation is hydraulic pressure support for the individual rows. During our test, the ISO-Match-Tellus pro terminal was installed in the cab. Thanks to the ISO-Bus standard, the seeder is also compatible with other terminals. The seed placement looked good at 18 km/h. According to Kverneland, a generator is unnecessary due to the efficient sealing and the power-saving drive of the singulation units. The power supply via ISO-Bus should be sufficient for up to 16 rows. The price will likely be 15 percent higher than the Optima HD.
