Hechas a Mano (Made by Hand)

This is a short film about making handmade tortillas. There are still many families, like this one, that daily hand makes tortillas for meals. Many families have a milpa (field where they grow corn and a few other crops). They harvest the corn and keep it safe. When they need more corn dough, they grind the corn and make the corn dough for tortillas. Some families use gas to cook with while others still cook with firewood. This is one of the authentic activities you can do when you visit the colonial town of Espita, Yucatan. You can visit a local family's house and watch handmade tortillas being prepared. There are also other things that can be prepared. #Espita #traditionalliving #yucatán #mexicancooking
