The Last Tycoon (1957) Jack Palance - Playhouse 90
Based on the unfinished novel by F Scott Fitzgerald Screenplay by Don Mankiewicz Directed by John Frankenheimer Shown live on CBS on 14 March 1957 Starring: Jack Palance, Lee Remick, Keenan Wynn, Viveca Lindfors, Peter Lorre, Reginald Denny. The character of Monroe Stahr was inspired by the brilliant Hollywood producer Irving Thalberg of MGM. F Scott Fitzgerald was a screenwriter at MGM in the 1930s. This is a wonderful example of the excitement of live television -- it was a high-wire act for 75 minutes, especially by the actors, camera crew, and director.
