なぜ榎本武揚だけが生き残ったのか?戦友・土方歳三の死と、一生背負った『裏切り者』の烙印
Why was Enomoto Takeaki the only one who had to survive? Enomoto Takeaki, a general of the rebel army who fought to the very end at Goryokaku, staking the pride of the Tokugawa on his actions as a shogunate retainer. Everyone believed he, too, would return to the soil of Hakodate alongside Hijikata Toshizo. However, he survived. Why did the enemy general, Kuroda Kiyotaka, shave his head and plead for his life? Enomoto's entrusted "Complete Book of International Maritime Laws," the ideals of the Ezo Republic, and the Treaty of Exchange of the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin, along with the postal mark… Perhaps there was a certain "promise" that Enomoto and Hijikata exchanged on that night at Goryokaku. Later, Enomoto held important positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications, but his contemporary, Fukuzawa Yukichi, along with Katsu Kaishu, fiercely criticized him in his "Theory of Stubbornness." Was the survivor a shrewd, resourceful man? Or was he a true hero who carried the stigma of being a traitor for life, fulfilling the dreams of those who died? This video delves into the untold struggles and pride of a man who prevented the end of the Edo period from ending in death, instead connecting it to life. How do you view this man?
