In mid-June, I climbed Mount Nikko Shirane, the highest peak in Tochigi and Gunma and one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. I'd always wanted to climb this mountain, so I was glad I finally got to do it. As expected, it's a popular mountain range and there were a lot of people, but once we passed the summit and headed towards Mount Mae Shirane, the atmosphere calmed down considerably and I had a comfortable hike. The outer ridge was the highlight of the hike, and walking along the ridge while taking in the views of Mount Shirane and Lake Goshikinuma was exceptional. I made chicken soy sauce ramen by the banks of Lake Goshikinuma.
