2026 GAC Trumpchi E8 PHEV. Best New Hybrid MPV? The 2026 GAC Trumpchi E8 PHEV is a family-focused plug-in hybrid MPV designed to combine spacious practicality with outstanding efficiency. Built as a mid-to-large-size seven-seater, it features a flexible 2+2+3 seating layout and dual power-sliding rear doors for easy access. Depending on the version, buyers can choose between a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a high-efficiency 1.5-liter turbocharged unit, both working alongside a front-mounted electric motor. The hybrid system produces a combined 175 kW (235 hp), sends power through a 2-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission, and enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in around 8.8 seconds with a top speed of 170 km/h. Efficiency is one of the E8 PHEV's strongest selling points. GAC offers battery options ranging from a 25.57 kWh ternary lithium pack to a larger 38.88 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, providing electric-only driving capability from roughly 116 km to as much as 205 km depending on the test cycle and configuration. When the battery and fuel tank are both full, the MPV can travel more than 1,200 km before needing to recharge or refuel. Official fuel consumption is rated at approximately 3.98 L/100 km, giving the E8 PHEV running costs closer to a compact city car than a traditional large family van. Inside, the cabin is designed to feel more like a premium lounge than a conventional MPV. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster works together with a 15.6-inch central touchscreen powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8295 processor, while higher-spec versions add a large 17.3-inch fold-down rear entertainment display. The second-row captain's chairs feature heating, ventilation, massage functions, and extendable leg rests, and the third row folds completely flat into the floor to maximize cargo space. Advanced ADiGO driver-assistance technology, available with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor on premium trims, is complemented by a 360-degree camera system, comprehensive stability controls, and extra-long side curtain airbags to enhance safety for all seven occupants.
