I Tried a Clever Trick to Stop Forgetting My Lines — It Backfired Immediately

In this video on Work Play Have Fun, I try something I thought was genuinely clever — recording my script into a voice recorder app, then playing it back through earphones while I filmed, so I could hear my lines and say them straight to camera without having to stop and check my notes every few seconds. Spoiler: it didn't go well. And neither did the edit that followed. This was originally filmed as a "making of" for another video, but it turned into a proper little story — with a failed experiment, a walk-and-talk on a country lane, and a LumaFusion export glitch that cost me about an hour of editing time. If you're starting out with video and wondering whether there's a shortcut to smoother talking-head footage — this one's for you. ▶ Watch the "Six Weeks Into YouTube at 58 — What I Wish I'd Known From the Start" video this setup was used for:    • Six Weeks Into YouTube at 58 — What I Wish...   🛠 What's covered in this video: • The challenge of remembering what to say while talking to camera • The idea: record your script and play it back in your earphones while filming • Setting up for a walk-and-talk on location • Why the earphone trick completely falls apart when you fluff a line • The simpler method that actually works • A LumaFusion export bug that makes on-screen text disappear mid-clip • The painful workaround: export four times and stitch the good bits together • Why this pushed me to make the switch to DaVinci Resolve sooner than planned • Practical tips for filming outdoors when there's traffic and people about 📦 Equipment & apps used/mentioned (links coming soon): • Main Video Camera: Samsung S20 FE 5G Smartphone • Tripod/Selfie Stick: Neewer 59" Selfie Stick Tripod • Microphone: CKOKC Wireless Lavalier Microphone Kit • Action Camera (AC): DJI Osmo Nano • AC Accessory: Magnetic Lanyard • iPhone 15 • Voice Record Pro Version 4.1 • Wireless Earphones: Apple AirPods Pro Model A2698 • iPad: iPad Air (4th Generation) • LumaFusion Version 5.4 🌐 Links: • Website: https://www.workplayhavefun.com • Work Play Have Fun:    / @workplayhavefun   • GitHub: https://github.com/workplayhavefun/wo... 💬 Question: When you're filming talking-head shots, what works best for you — a full script, bullet points, or just winging it? #workplayhavefun #contentcreation #talkingtocamera #lifevlog #over50 #youtubebeginners #lumafusion #davinciresolve 📌 Chapters: 00:00 Before The Video Shoot 00:57 The idea: play your script back through earphones 02:57 During The Video Shoot 02:59 Out on location — walk-and-talk setup 03:32 Equipment: lav mic and DJI Osmo Nano 04:23 After The Video Shoot 04:29 Did it work?
