Emotie tijdens aftreden groothertog Henri - Willem-Alexander en Máxima op de eerste rij

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg has officially abdicated the throne. In a solemn ceremony at the Grand Ducal Palace, the 70-year-old signed his abdication document, passing the crown to his eldest son, Guillaume. The highlight of the day was the emotional handshake between father and son, both in military uniform. Prime Minister Luc Frieden praised Henri for serving Luxembourg “with heart and soul” and added warm words for Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. In the audience were many dignitaries, including King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, sitting alongside King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium. Their daughters, Princess Amalia and Princess Elisabeth, also attended. With Henri’s farewell, Luxembourg turns a new page in history as Guillaume becomes the new Grand Duke. © Royal TV
