Hidden Reservoirs: Inhibiting Transmission and Proliferation of Waterborne MDROs
Research increasingly shows that hospital sinks, drains and plumbing systems can function as reservoirs for multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Studies have identified pathogens such as pseudomonas aeruginosa, carbapenem-resistant enterobacterales (CRE), candida auris and legionella colonizing plumbing biofilms, where organisms can persist and resist disinfectants.
