No matter how many difficulties others bring, You must never abandon the Teacher's profound teachings. Many trials are surrounding you, If you lose heart, your efforts will be wasted. Whatever remains in this world, Is an illusion; do not harbor it in your heart. Second: The Teacher looks upon his disciples, You must maintain true friendship. Always forgive and be tolerant, Advise gently, do not use harsh words. Guide each other to cultivate merit, Be sincere with everyone around you. Endure hardships and sacrifices as you see fit, The Teacher has reserved the state of non-action for you. Third: Perfect virtue and conduct, Even through hard work and toil. Exchange labor for the sake of one's own life, Do not covet deceitful and inhumane acts. Even if your chests and cupboards are overflowing with money, Know contentment in this earthly life, my child. Even wickedness can be enjoyed for a lifetime, Better to be poor but pure, with a peaceful soul. Fourth: The Dharma and its rules, Strive to cultivate a vegetarian diet of sixty years. Meat, bones, and blood are foul and pungent, Even grass, plants, and vegetables are still part of a meal. Constantly manifest compassion, Do not kill, and your good heart remains. A simple vegetarian diet may not be sweet and delicious, It is better than the pleasure of rice mixed with blood. Fifth: Resolve not to harbor resentment, Why burden your heart with hatred and jealousy? My child, study the myriad scriptures and heavenly texts, The virtuous and noble are boundless in their compassion. All things begin with anger and resentment, It is the cause of suffering and separation. The true transmission of the golden Dharma, Having cultivated patience, Nirvana is not far away. Sixth: The Master earnestly instructed, Two times a day, quietly practice meditation. No matter how diligently you work, Take a few moments to practice prayer and meditation. When free from the work of farming and commerce, Take the scriptures and teachings given by the Master. Study them thoroughly, Recite them during moments of peaceful contemplation. Seventh: Determined to increase meritorious deeds, Comfort the elderly and the sick. Help as needed, Whenever you are in trouble, That merit will last forever, Though invisible, do not think it is nonexistent. My child, in this earthly realm, How many think of a pure heart? Eighth: The Master taught, Even if you suffer hardship, do not complain of the effort. Even if you have to sacrifice, how could the Buddhas and Immortals forget you? Do not be bothered by the high mountains and deep forests, Or by the long and arduous journey. If you vow to keep your heart true, You will naturally attain enlightenment and escape the cycle of birth and death. Ninth, Fundamental Principle of Good Conduct How to maintain friendships without enemies From now on, remember to practice: Humble yourself and admit your mistakes, even if they are not. Speak in harmony with others. Don't try to surpass others if you have to force yourself. Don't crave grandiose things. Just enough to eat and be warm, what's the point of carrying extravagant burdens? Finally, remember these ten things: Do not forget the gratitude you owe to the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Family ties are even more important. Social compassion helps in times of need. The gratitude to your ancestors should be reserved for your descendants. These are the teachings I hope you will receive. My child, please remember them well. All this heartfelt devotion, these lines of poetry.
