Why This DESIGN.md File Made My AI Design Look So Much Better

➡ Tool used: – https://aura.build?via=samhttps://neuform.ai?via=sam In this video, I show how one single DESIGN.md file can completely change the direction of an AI-generated landing page. Instead of starting with a perfect design, I begin with a basic detailed prompt and generate a full landing page inside Aura. The first result has structure, but it feels generic: repeated cards, predictable sections, familiar icons, and no strong visual identity. Then I test the same prompt again with a simple skeuomorphic style instruction. The result gets better, but it still doesn’t fully capture the depth, texture, and tactile feeling I wanted. That’s where the DESIGN.md workflow comes in. I show how adding a strong DESIGN.md reference instantly shifts the landing page into a more premium skeuomorphic direction, with better shadows, more physical buttons, stronger depth, and a more intentional visual identity. But the video is not just about the first generation. I also walk through my real refinement process: improving the navigation, replacing generic sections, using Aura’s component library, pairing components with ChatGPT, adapting the same visual DNA across the page, and refining the landing page section by section until it feels much more complete. This workflow is useful because most AI-generated UI doesn’t fail because the tool is bad. It fails because the starting direction is weak. When the AI starts from a blank prompt, it has to guess the style, layout, typography, spacing, depth, and overall taste. But when you give it a strong DESIGN.md file, the result becomes much more specific and much easier to refine. What you’ll see in this video: ✔ What skeuomorphic style means in UI design ✔ How I chose a topic that fits the skeuomorphic direction ✔ How a generic AI landing page looks without visual direction ✔ What happens when you only add “skeuomorphic style” to a prompt ✔ Why a DESIGN.md file gives the AI stronger visual DNA ✔ How Aura’s DESIGN.md feature works ✔ How to use DESIGN.md and HTML references inside a prompt ✔ How to turn a generic landing page into a premium UI direction ✔ How to refine navigation with prompt-based editing ✔ How to replace weak sections using component-based editing ✔ How to pair Aura components with ChatGPT ✔ How to adapt a component to the same visual DNA ✔ How to improve generic feature sections, pricing, FAQ, CTA, and footer ✔ How to use animated backgrounds to enhance the final result ✔ Why AI design is more about iteration than one perfect prompt Why this workflow is useful: A DESIGN.md file gives your AI builder something a normal prompt usually doesn’t: a clear visual direction. It helps define the mood, spacing, shadows, surfaces, typography, component style, and overall design language. Instead of asking the AI to guess what “premium” means, you give it a visual system to follow. That doesn’t mean the first result is perfect. You still need to refine the page, improve the sections, replace generic layouts, and make design decisions. But once the visual identity is strong, the rest of the process becomes much easier. You’re no longer trying to invent the style from scratch. You’re refining the experience one section at a time. What I learned from this process: The biggest lesson is that AI-generated UI improves dramatically when you stop starting from zero. A detailed prompt can give you structure. A style instruction can improve the direction. But a DESIGN.md file gives the AI a stronger design language. And when you combine that with component-based refinement and ChatGPT, you can move from a generic AI landing page to something that feels much more intentional, polished, and designed. ➡ My personal website https://samnangstudio.com 👍 Leave a like if you found it useful 💬 Comment if you want more videos on Aura, Neuform, AI design workflows, or UI refinement 🔔 Subscribe for more AI design tools, workflows, and UI experiments Tags / Keywords #DesignMD #AuraBuild #Neuform #AIDesign #UIDesign #WebDesign #AIWorkflow #DesignTools #VisualDNA #LandingPageDesign #SkeuomorphicDesign #AIUIDesign #AIGeneratedUI #CreativeWorkflow #WebDesignTools #PromptEngineering ➡ Let’s connect 👋🏽 –   / samnang-aing-639168341   – https://x.com/SammmAing –   / prompting_lab   – https://www.threads.com/@prompting_lab/
