Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph Luxury Watch Review
http://www.thewatchbox.com/watches/ch... Like luxury watches, sports cars inspire a passionate following. Chopard honors both contingents with the Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph. At 38mm in stainless steel, the Mille Miglia is a premium motorsports accessory with the engineering and style to match any vintage racer. The 1927-1957 Mille Miglia road race was staged on open European highways, side streets, and ancient Roman roads. Competitors ranged from blue-blood continental royalty to blue-collar factory “hot shoe” drivers paid for their skill and indifference to danger. By the late 1950s, auto technology had surpassed the safe limits of rural roads, and the race was consigned to the annals of legend. Chopard's Mille Miglia celebrates the legacy of the classic “road race” scene with a watch that combines the best of vintage tradition with modern technology and a few postmodern cues for good measure. The Mille Miglia’s matte black dial, matching black vulcanized rubber strap (with sunken "tire tread" grooves for flexibility), individual numbering, and a sapphire display case back complete the upscale treatment. Chopard employs classic elements that evoke traditional motorsports watch imagery. A tri-compax subdial arrangement echoes the great Rolex Daytona, Omega Speedmaster Mark II "Racing Dial," Heuer Carrera and Monaco, and other legends that graced trackside scenes during the golden age of the "racing chronograph" in the 1960s and 1970s. A subtle red "Mille Miglia" icon at three o'clock acknowledges the revived vintage car rally (inspired by the original road race) that has licensed its name to Chopard's flagship sports watch since 1988. The Chronograph seconds hand sports a matching red flourish at its head for a second dash of color. Because race car drivers, teams, and fans live and die by the clock, the Chopard Mille Miglia is a modern 28,800 VpH machine. Its automatic-winding chronograph caliber is based on the ETA 2894 and features a smooth vertical-clutch chronograph coupling. Thanks to this premium refinement, the Chopard Mille Miglia starts without a "jumped second," stops without imprecise "stumble," and resets perfectly to the index ("zeros") each time.
