FOLLOW US ON   / lateologiadelacalle   Theologian Rifo Kila, one of reggaeton's most influential yet most underrated producers, tells for the first time how Héctor el Father's album Juicio Final was almost lost forever. Just days before delivering the album, the master tape was corrupted. Héctor was in Canada playing his last shows, and the project was hanging by a thread. In this episode of La Teología de la Calle (Theology of the Street), Rifo reveals how he saved it from a backup he had stored, how many tracks were left off, and why he gave Héctor one non-negotiable rule for that album: zero reggaeton. But that's only part of the story. Rifo also opens the treasure chest of the genre's golden age: the birth of Money Machine alongside Notty, his work on Bando Corrupto and Los Rompe Discotekas, the strategy behind Don Beno's diss track, and how he transformed Rakim & Ken-Y's "Down" into the romantic reggaeton we all know. The producer behind Money Machine also recounts the two and a half years he spent bedridden with a thyroid problem, how he had to give up his properties and move back in with his parents, and how that setback completely transformed him. "God humbled me," he says, without embellishment. Rifo speaks of faith without clichés: why—being a believer—he doesn't believe in Christian reggaeton, what it meant to reconcile his mother with God before she passed away, and why he defends the conversion of artists like Farruko against those who judge them.
