In Omachi, the rice paddies are colored by snowmelt from the peaks of the Ushiro-Tateyama Range. Our ancestors devised ways to warm the water, which was once too cold for rice to grow. This legacy of perseverance supports the beauty we see today. And then, Hakuba. The remaining snow on the Hakuba Three Peaks melts in the spring sun, flowing into the rivers and nourishing the village. The diligent daily life of the people who till the soil creates a giant mirror, vividly reflecting the mountains.
