Identifying, Diagnosing, and Supporting People with Asperger's Syndrome Every February 18th, International Asperger's Syndrome Day is celebrated, a day dedicated to raising awareness of this Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) that affects social interaction, communication, and flexibility of thought in individuals with this condition. People with Asperger's often have fluent language and good intelligence, but they exhibit deep and repetitive interests, literal thinking, motor clumsiness, and difficulty understanding social cues. Epidemiological studies indicate that between 1 and 5 children per thousand births have this condition. Experts agree on the importance of early diagnosis to prevent suffering.
