Catecismo 976-978. Creo en el perdón de los pecados. Un solo bautismo para el perdón de los pecados
I believe in the forgiveness of sins. One baptism for the forgiveness of sins I 976 The Apostles' Creed links faith in the forgiveness of sins to faith in the Holy Spirit, but also to faith in the Church and in the communion of saints. By giving the Holy Spirit to his Apostles, the risen Christ conferred upon them his own divine power to forgive sins: “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven” (Jn 20:22-23). (The second part of the Catechism will deal explicitly with the forgiveness of sins through Baptism, the sacrament of Penance, and the other sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Here, therefore, it suffices to briefly mention some basic facts.) I. One Baptism for the Forgiveness of Sins 977 Our Lord linked the forgiveness of sins to faith and Baptism: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mk 16:15-16). Baptism is the first and principal sacrament for the forgiveness of sins because it unites us to Christ, who died for our sins and rose for our justification (cf. Rom 4:25), so that we too “may live a new life” (Rom 6:4). 978 "At the moment when we make our first profession of faith, upon receiving holy Baptism which purifies us, the forgiveness we receive is so full and so complete that absolutely nothing remains to be erased, whether of original sin or of any other sin committed or omitted by our own will, nor any punishment to suffer in order to expiate them. However, the grace of Baptism does not free a person from all the weaknesses of nature. On the contrary [...] we still have to fight against the movements of concupiscence which do not cease to lead us to evil" (Roman Catechism, 1, 11, 3).
