Wipers & Wiper Stalk
Driving in the rain is hard enough… that’s why Kia offers easy-to-operate windshield wipers… And on select models, rain-sensing wipers. But you don’t have to wait for a rainstorm to learn how they operate. Let’s take a look… The windshield wiper controls are located on the right-hand stalk, just behind the steering wheel. Moving the stalk up engages Mist, which just wipes the windshield one time and stops. Moving the stalk down one click engages the intermittent wipe setting. In that position, you can move this to vary the interval between wiper sweeps. On some models, the Instrument Cluster may show a display of which intermittent wipe mode you’re in when moving the lever. If equipped, when the wipers are set in the Auto position, it activates the automatic rain-sensing wipers – in this position, a sensor located near the top of the windshield senses the amount of rainfall on the windshield and varies the speed of the wipers based on how hard it is raining – so, the more it rains, the faster the wipers will operate. When you start your Kia, the wiper will operate once to perform a self-check of the system. Moving the stalk down one more position engages the low wiper speed – where the wipers operate continuously at a low speed. Finally, moving the stalk all the way down is the high-speed setting, which comes in handy during hard rainfall. To clean the windshield, pull back on the stalk. When you do that, it will automatically sweep the windshield one to three times. The spray and wiper operation will continue until you release the stalk. This stalk also controls the rear wipers. The rear wiper controls are located on the end of the stalk and offer high or low speed operation. If you want to clean the rear window, push forward on the stalk. So, when the next rainstorm hits, you’ll be ready to keep things clear – front and rear!
