La Guyane, un territoire en alerte permanente
In the largest of the French departments, there are numerous areas to monitor. In the Maripasoula region, illegal gold miners have invaded the forest. To put an end to their environmentally devastating activities, a thousand men from the FAG – the Armed Forces in Guyana – are deployed on the ground. At the mouth of the Approuague River, the gendarmes of the nautical brigade are responsible for preventing the supply of illegal sites and stopping all trafficking. On the roads, while the SAMU carries out medical evacuations to the Cayenne hospital, customs controls the collective taxis in which the drug smugglers transit. For their part, environmental police officers patrol daily to preserve protected species from unscrupulous hunters. Through their commitment, all these gendarmes, police officers, customs officers, doctors and soldiers working in Guyana have a common mission at heart: to protect and preserve this precious territory.
