Just Wrong: The aftermath of wrongful convictions
Six individuals affected by wrongful convictions in the U.S. criminal justice system share their stories and the challenges they have faced since the wrongful conviction came to light. NIJ is dedicated to using science to learn about the causes and consequences of wrongful convictions. Only with this understanding will we minimize these miscarriages of justice, support victims and restore their confidence in the justice system. In February 2016, NIJ and its partners hosted listening sessions for victims or survivors of crimes that resulted in wrongful convictions and individuals who have been exonerated to share their experiences. These powerful listening sessions revealed that there currently is no systematic response to the needs of victims and exonerees of wrongful convictions and the services offered are often inadequate.
