How Is This 800-Year-Old Wooden Mosque Still Standing?

I travelled to a modern capital city to explore its mosques, Islamic history and everyday Muslim life. Over two days, I discovered how Islam continues to shape the city through its people, architecture and traditions. One of the highlights of this journey was visiting an incredible 800-year-old wooden mosque. Built during the Seljuk era, this historic masjid has survived for centuries and remains one of the most unique examples of Islamic architecture I have ever seen. From grand modern mosques to ancient wooden masajid hidden in the old city, this journey showed me the beauty and diversity of Islamic history. Hearing the Adhan, exploring centuries of Muslim heritage and experiencing daily life among fellow Muslims reminded me how Islam connects us across time and place. Along the way, I explored the city's streets, tasted delicious halal food and experienced the warmth and hospitality that make travelling through the Muslim world so special.
