Minolta provided Akiyama with a white α-8700i camera, making it one of the rare film cameras to be used in space photography. The Minolta α-8700i Mir Edition – A Limited Space-Inspired Release To commemorate this historic event, Minolta released a limited edition of the α-8700i in 1990, known as the “Mir” version.
