Black Women, Menopause and Cardiovascular Disease: What You Should Know
Heart Disease remains the number one killer of women in the U.S. Although menopause does not cause heart disease, according to the American Heart Association (AHA), particular risk factors increase around menopause. Cardiovascular diseases kill approximately 50,000 Black women in the U.S. each year. Of these women aged 20 years and older, almost half have heart diseases. This informative online event explored the impact of menopause on cardiovascular health in Black women and featured h leading experts in the field: Sharon Malone, MD, FACOG, MSCP and Chief Medical Advisor, Alloy; and Jayne Morgan, MD, Cardiologist and the Executive Director of Health and Community Education at the Piedmont Healthcare Corporation. In this conversation, we delve into the intersection of Black women, menopause, and cardiovascular health -- sharing the facts, challenges, risks, and solutions in support of good heart health.
