Speaking in the Lok Sabha on the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, MP Gaurav Gogoi accused the government of treating education reform as a mere show, pointing out that 44 of the 45 people charged in the 2024 NEET-UG paper leak case, including mastermind Sanjeev Mukhia, have already secured bail. He questions why the NTA Chairman remains in office despite a track record of scandals in his previous posts, and why the government transferred 47 NTA staff when the agency's sanctioned strength is only 34. Holding the government responsible for the deaths of 21 students who died by suicide after the 2024 leak, he criticised then-Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for initially denying the leak occurred, and linked the episode to a broader pattern of political interference in universities, vice-chancellor appointments, and faculty transfers. The MP lauded the spirit of the students who protested at Jantar Mantar and across the country. He strongly condemned the police crackdown, citing baton charges, tear gas, and the mistreatment of protestors, including young women, and demanded that the Home Minister explain who ordered the use of force. He argued that the bill was introduced only because the government could not suppress the protests. He closed with a message of solidarity with India's students and youth in their demand for a fair and accountable education system.
