The Lister D is an iconic, single-cylinder stationary engine built by R.A. Lister & Co. in Dursley, Gloucestershire. Introduced in October 1926, the rugged and reliable "putt-putt" engine became the British countryside’s ultimate workhorse, with over 250,000 units produced before production ended in 1964 1926 (October): The very first Lister D (serial number 80,000) was assembled. It was built to replace the earlier Lister H World War II: The D-Type played a crucial role in the British war effort, powering trench water pumps, radio communication hubs, and searchlight generators. Post-War Boom: Following WWII, the Lister D shifted from farms to building sites, becoming the engine of choice for driving cement mixers during the rebuilding of Britain 1964: Production ceased, not due to mechanical failure, but because modern, small electric motors and advanced machinery began to replace it.
