Edith and the Kingpin - Jaco Pastorius bass-line
Edith and the Kingpin by Joni Mitchell on Shadows and Light [Live] with Jaco Pastorius on bass. One of the hardest things I’ve attempted to play. I assumed he was hitting all sorts of crazy notes all the time, so I figured out the notation and tab. Surprisingly, he hits root notes (including octaves) more than 50% of the time, fifths ~20%, sevenths ~10%, and sixths 5%. He hits seconds, thirds and fourths only ~3% of the time and adds only one or two ninths, elevenths and thirteenths each. He clearly knows when to play each note at the right time. [Please note that this is a comp of several takes.] PDF https://drive.google.com/drive/folder... Marcus Miller Sire v7 alder body. D'Addario Chrome flats XL 132-45. Bridge pickup with tone fully on. Action low for mwah. Mids boosted a little. Touch of Logic chorus and reverb (MXR pedals if live). No compression - it dulls the dynamics required for this. Compare the bass tone with the following video where light gauge La Bella Gold White Nylon Tape Wounds were used, offering more mids. • Cover of Lost and Found by John McLaughlin...
