Fortunately, the victim survived, despite being electrocuted three times by the perpetrator. This attempted violent theft occurred on Sunday (May 31, 2026) and was thwarted by residents. The perpetrator, AF (37), initially targeted valuables such as wallets, cell phones, and cash inside the car. However, the situation changed when the perpetrator saw JRR, who works at the East Denpasar II Community Health Center, getting into his sedan alone, just as the victim had just finished shopping. AF then changed his mind and attempted to take control of the victim's vehicle. He then immediately entered the unlocked car and electrocuted the victim using an electric shock device he had purchased online. The perpetrator then forcibly pulled the victim out of the car and immediately sat in the driver's seat. The victim, who was still conscious, screamed for help, attracting the attention of nearby residents. Residents who heard the screams immediately rushed to the scene and apprehended the perpetrator before he fled. South Denpasar Police Chief, AKP Agus Adi Apriyoga, stated in a press release on Thursday (June 4, 2026), that the electrocution device did not render the victim unconscious because it did not touch the skin. For his actions, AF was charged under Article 479 of the Indonesian Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 17 concerning attempted theft with violence, which carries a maximum sentence of nine years in prison.
