Hoyerswerda: Der erste EuroCity macht Halt - LAUSITZWELLE

Perhaps soon we'll hear "Caution on Platform 4" more often in Hoyerswerda. On Wednesday afternoon, a Eurocity test train operated by the Polish state railway PKP stopped at Hoyerswerda station – and not without reason. The train stood there for about five minutes while measurements were taken on the platform. This is a planned international long-distance connection, scheduled to begin with the timetable change in December. The train would then commute twice a day in both directions between Przemyśl on the Ukrainian border and Leipzig – via Kraków, Wrocław, and also through Lusatia. Hoyerswerda is counting on a good chance of a regular stop, as the town is strategically located on the Lower Silesian Main Line. The Eurocity is to be timed so that the ODEG regional train from Niesky arrives in Hoyerswerda on time – as a practical feeder. Niesky's mayor, Kathrin Uhlemann, and Hoyerswerda's mayor, Mirko Pink, agree – this would be a real benefit for the region: better long-distance connections, new perspectives in structural change, and more attractive conditions for skilled workers. However, the train will not stop in Niesky itself – according to the Federal Ministry of Transport, the platform there does not meet the technical requirements. The test run could therefore be a first taste of what could soon become everyday life on platform 4.
