Saving a 1933 Austin Seven — Seats, Brakes… Then It Leaked Everywhere

Albert the 1933 Austin Seven Special is back at HJRgarage — and things were going a bit too smoothly… until they weren’t. 1933 Austin Seven Revival – Episode 4 In this episode, I carry on making solid progress on the Austin, starting with fitting the seats and getting the interior a bit more usable. After that, I go through and adjust all the brakes, making sure everything is working as it should for the first proper drive. Underneath the car also gets some attention, with a clean-up and a fresh coat of paint to tidy things up and give it a bit of protection going forward. I then move on to servicing the drivetrain, filling the engine, gearbox and diff with fresh oil and replacing the filter, as well as sorting a few broken bolts that needed drilling out and fixing along the way. Everything was heading in the right direction… until it came time to fill the cooling system. That’s where things took a turn. Water ended up leaking from just about everywhere, turning a simple job into a full-on problem that needed sorting properly. To fix it, I ended up making a new cooling manifold from scratch and re-soldering the radiator in an attempt to get the system sealed and working as it should. It’s another big step forward, even if it didn’t quite go to plan. That’s all part of bringing a 90-year-old car back to life. Thanks again for all the support on the series so far — it’s been great seeing how many people are following along with Albert’s progress.
