‘PAT’ Testing a Fixed Appliance (Hand Dryer), Start to Finish
Fixed appliances often sit in a grey area when it comes to safety inspections. Fixed wiring inspectors think (correctly) that it’s the domain of ‘PAT’ testers, whereas PAT Testers assume it’s not theirs to test because it’s not portable, nor bearing a plug. In defence of the PAT inspectors, even the highest qualification in that field doesn’t include any training on safe isolation. Here I show a simple method where ‘fixed’ appliances can be connected to a plug, enabling all routine safety tests to be carried out quickly and easily. **I say this video is the complete process, but for brevity I’ve omitted filming any visual inspections or function tests, which are just as critical to the safety checks as the technical tests.
